At my local Apple store, there is an “Express” counter. This handles pickup orders as well as walk up purchases for accessories and other products that do not need to be brought out of the back like the big ticket items. This means that customers don’t have to find someone to help them check out, because there are always multiple people at the counter ready to ring customers up.

Which store is that? Over on Twitter last night some folks were mentioning that the New York City stores had dedicated areas like this. Would love to see it expand out to the rest of Apple Retail!

Washington Square Apple Store in Oregon. It’s a great section to have because it keeps the store flowing.

Nice! Good to see that being implemented in a "regular" Apple Store.

Just recently, when I quickly needed a set of Airtags, first finding them on the wall (everything is white and looks the same) and then figuring out how to pay for them, and realizing that every Apple person was busy with a line of customers waiting, I was close to just leaving the store without the purchase. It is indeed very frustrating if you cannot even figure out where to wait, and one feels taken advantage of by others who come before you, not to make a quick payment but to ask lengthy questions, while other customers had the luck to stand near a person who's quickly available. It's like lines in a super market, but without the assurance that your line will even move forward. When this happens to me in an Apple Store, I feel not valued as a customer but as a tool to praise and admire Apple.

Well said, Thomas! I would love it if this blog post wound up being the catalyst for getting the check-out counter back. 😂
